An Introduction to the Language
The Votic language is closely related to Estonian and unlike Livonian hasn't had a large influence by Latvian. It has, however, a number of loanwords from Russian. There are very few Votic speakers remaining. There was about 1000 speakers before the Soviet Union, but after racial suppression, the population was decreased by 90% and there are less lan 100 speakers remaining.
