An Introduction to the Language
Syriac evolved out of the Ancient Aramaic language that was once used as a major language all across the fertile crescent. It is believed that Aramaic is the language that would have been spoken by Jesus Christ amongst his peers and may have been the language used at the Last Supper. It is an important liturgical language that has evolved into modern day Syriac which comes from middle Aramaic and is used amongst Syrians who practice the orthodox religion associated with it.
