These are only the base noun forms. The cardinal numbers is how one would say them when doing a simple counting. The agreement works as follows:
Agreement in 1-10 Cardinal Numbers
Only the number 1 presents gender agreement. The masculine form is un, the feminine is una. When not working as an adjective but as a pronoun, then it's uno referring to a masculine noun, and una referring to a feminine noun.
- Un niño.
- "A/One boy, ".
- Una niña.
- "A/One girl".
- Vas a necesitar 30 naranjas para el jugo, pero en cuanto a los limones... Uno será suficiente.
- "You're going to need 30 oranges for the juice, but as for lemons... One will be enough."
- ¿Cuántas bolsas va a necesitar? Sólo una.
- "How many bags are you going to need? Only one."
All the other numbers are invariable.
Agreement in 1-10 Ordinal Numbers
These numbers agree in gender.
- El décimo soldado de la marcha.
- The tenth soldier soldier of the march.
- La primera águila en sobrevivir.
- The first eagle in survive. (el águila is a feminine noun)
The ordinal numbers are never used in the plural, except for primero, in reference to the first elements a group.
- Los primeros participantes en llegar se llevarán un premio.
- The first participants in getting to the end will take a prize. (participantes being a plural, masculine/mixed noun)
