Pashto (also called Pakhtu, Pushtu, Afghani and Pathani) is an Indo-Aryan language, spoken in Afghanistan and Westren Pakistan. There are forty-million speakers of Pashto around the world. In Afghanistan, Pashto is spoken in the east, south and southwest. Pashto is the mother tongue of 30% of the population. In Pakistan, Pashto is spoken by about 15% of the total population (approx. 25.6 million people) in the provinces of the NWFP, FATA, and Balochistan, as well as parts of Mianwali and Attock districts of Punjab province. Pashto-speakers are also found in the cities of Karachi and Hyderabad in Sindh. Some other places of Pashto speakers are found in eastern Iran and in Tajikistan. There are also Pashtun communities in the southwestern part of Jammu & Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh in India. Pashto-speaking communities are also in the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia has the most of these. There are also speakers in the United States, and in the United Kingdom, Thailand, Canada and Australia.
