An Introduction to the Language
History
Norwegian is a Northern Germanic language spoken as an official language in Norway. It is broken into two variants known as bokmål and nynorsk, of which this page talks about Bokmål. Bokmål is primarily a written language due to Norwegians nature of being very dialectal.
Bokmål developed from a western dialect of Old Norse. Norwegian is highly intelligible with Swedish and Danish and is often described as the most mutually intelligible continental Scandinavian language.
