An Introduction to the Language
Norfuk is a creole language based on 18th-century English and Tahitian. It is the co-official language of Norfolk Island, where it is mainly spoken.
History
Norfuk derives from Pitkern, which itself evolved from a mixture of the 18th-century English spoken by Bounty crewmen and the Tahitian spoken by their island brides. Though Norfuk and Pitkern both share the "pih" ISO 639-3 language code, they are not exactly the same language, but can be considered dialects. Being less and less passed on to children, and due to the island's minimal population, the use of Norfuk diminishes and the its future is at risk. Furthermore, literary resources are also very limited.
