An Introduction to the Language
Korean is the official language of both North and South Korean. It used to be written mostly with Chinese characters like Japanese, but a king named Sejong the Great invented a special script called hangeul that is still in use today. It has all but replaced the hanja that were taken from Chinese, though sometimes the hanja are used to distinguish words that sound alike. It is still being taught in schools in Korea.
