An Introduction to the Language
History
The revival of Hebrew as a native language was begun by the efforts of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, who joined the Jewish National Movement, and emigrated to Palestine. There he became motivated to turn what was at that point a liturgical language into an everyday spoken language. It was not until 1922 however that Hebrew was really recognized as a language internationally. Since the creation of Israel following WWII, Hebrew has gained an increasing profile amongst the worlds languages.
