Estonian is a language which relies quite often on both prepositions and postpositions with other cases to add to the meaning.

Prepositions

Prepositions are placed before the noun in the given case.

Genitive

The following require the genitive case.

läbi through ma läksin läbi ukseuks.GEN I walked through the door.
peale beside - -
üle over lehm hüppas üle kuukuu.GEN the cow jumped over the moon.
ümer around ma jooksin ümber majamaja.GEN I ran around the house

Abessive

The following require the abessive case.

ilma without ma läksin kooli ilma minu sõbratasõber.ABE I went to school without my friend.
