An Introduction to the Language
History
Armenian is one of the oldest Indo-European languages. The earliest written texts date back to 5AD which were translations of the old testament. Armenian was heavily influenced by Crimean Gothic, Persian, Turkish and Arabic over the years. These days there are two literary dialects of the language known as Western Armenian and Eastern Armenian.

Spoken in
Armenian general has 6.7 million speakers world wide, most of which in Armenia where Armenian is the official language. Eastern Armenian is predominantly spoken in Armenia and parts of Iran. Western Armenian is spoken by minorities mainly in Northern America.
