This page will explain how many words in Afrikaans is constructed and compare them to Dutch. It will also compare differences between words within the language.
Introduction
Afrikaans is descended from Dutch. The two are mutually intelligible, that is, a person speaking Afrikaans and a person speaking Dutch can understand each other and converse in their languages respectively. Naturally, this means that a lot of vocabulary is the same.
